When John Edwards told his mistress he was planning to run for president in the 2008 election, she says she urged him to wait. According to an interview given by Rielle Hunter to GQ magazine, she told Edwards that through her intuitiveness and astrological pursuits, she foresaw that the first three months of 2007 would be difficult for him.
Edwards wife was diagnosed with a recurrence of cancer in March of that year.
After the diagnosis, Edwards wanted to pull from the race, but his wife wanted him to stay in. Hunter allegedly saw this as a "reckless" move, claiming to have been "shocked" by the decision.
Edwards and his wife split early this year.
